What is Peer Counseling?

Adam Center is an organization of Christian men committed to promoting emotional, spiritual and relational healing for men age 18 and above in a safe, confidential environment at no cost, through its peer counseling programs.

Whether you desire counseling for yourself or you feel God’s call to become a Volunteer Peer Counselor, you have come to the right place.

PEER-COUNSELING:

The Adam Center offers Christian based one-to-one peer counseling sessions at no cost to the client.  Issues often covered include, but are not limited to: Anxiety/Stress, Abuse (Emotional, Relational, Sexual, Spiritual), Anger, Boundaries/Codependency, Fear, Feeling lost or confused, Grief, Guilt/Shame, Loneliness, Loss of Employment, Relationship, Self-esteem, and Spirituality.

BASIC PEER COUNSELOR TRAINING:

Basic Training to become a Volunteer Peer Counselor (VPC) is a 8 to12 unit course designed to equip you, enrich your life experiences and empower you to minister at the Adam Center to other men 18 years and older in either one to one sessions or as a co-leader of a healing group or study. This is accomplished through written curriculum, life experience sharing, role play, weekly assignments, and with one another in class.  The supernatural empowering through God’s presence and provision, as we come together to learn, will equip you for service.  Chapters include listening skills, personality assessment, confidentiality, and role definition. The course is led by a team of trained VPC’s of the Adam Center.

First step toward Peer-Counseling training is to fill out and submit application.

ADVANCED INTENSIVE TRAINING:

Upon completion of the Basic course and commencement seeing clients, VPC’s participate in monthly intensives on the main topics clients bring to the Adam Center: Anxiety/Stress, Abuse (Emotional, Relational, Sexual, Spiritual), Anger, Boundaries/Codependency, Fear, Feeling lost or confused, Grief, Guilt/Shame, Loneliness, Emotional Loss , Relationship, Self-esteem, and Spirituality.
